Tattoos - Tattoo Basics For Beginners
By Terry Daniels
In ancient times, the art of marking the body with tattoos was an integral part of cultural customs, and continues to be so to this day in distant parts of the world. A tattoo was often used for identification, to distinguish royalty in tribal communities and also to mark criminals and slaves.
In this day, tattoos are becoming a fashion statement, a way of self expression and like some cultures, a way to attract the opposite sex. One thing remains the same though. A tattoo is permanent. Sure, there are removal processes, but they will cost a lot of money and are often more painful then getting one. Choose wisely. Here are some tips.
Define Your Reason
Why are you considering body art? Once you are sure of your reasons for wanting tattoos, the rest of your journey will be easier. If you have any doubts at all, then turning back would be the wise choice. I have seen people jump in to impress a friend or get one because of a bet, only to have deep regrets later on. Now that you have your reason, where to start.
Choosing A Design
The design you ultimately choose should have a special meaning that relates to you in some way. Choosing Tweety bird because he's cute or some other insignificant icon often leads to regret once the novelty wears off. Take it from a fellow canvas holder here. Choose something significant that you can live with forever.
Where Will You Put It?
Tattoos can be placed anywhere on the body, but this should also be taken into serious consideration. Does your employer allow body art? Do you want your tattoo to be visible at all times, or just when you feel like revealing it? Is it for you to enjoy or others? Some places on the body are not visible except by mirror.
Choose Your Artist
Make sure you are working with a reputable tattoo artist. Get references from other satisfied customers and be sure to check out his/her work. If you must travel to get good artwork, then it would be worth the effort. Always choose an artist who is willing to allow you to watch a work in progress. This will give you a good indication of his style and technique.
By following these tips you will have the necessary tools to make your journey into the world of body art both enjoyable and satisfying, with no regrets. Tattoos are a very personal way of showing self expression and imagination. Body art is a lot more than slapping a picture on your skin, and when you really think about it, it truly is more than skin deep.
